Mission: Crossroads Mission was started in 1959 as Lower Lights Rescue Mission. At that time it functioned as a soup kitchen and shelter. In 1990 the direction of the ministry changed to a recovery based program. People who are homeless have a multitude of problems that needed to be addressed. Abuse, addiction to chemicals, illiteracy just to name a few. In order to fulfill the purpose, a recovery program was developed, on the social model. 12 step classes and groups with individual counseling and vocational training, coupled with spirituality and education, G.E.D classes were started. Crossroads Mission still is now much more than a soup kitchen, but that is just the start, not the end.
