Our Story

Immigrant Guide was born from lived experience. In 2012, co-founder Mpiima Mugambe migrated to the United States and faced the same challenges many immigrants encounter—confusion, isolation, and limited access to vital services. Inspired by his journey, he envisioned a mobile platform that could offer support, guidance, and connection to others navigating similar paths. In 2018,

Cora Jessup and Cossette Belle joined Mpiima at the University of Washington’s School of Social Work. Together, they transformed the idea into a class project under the mentorship of their instructor. Through the Community-Centered Integrative Practice course, the team conducted a community needs assessment that shaped the mobile app and its accompanying social service programs. Thus, Immigrant Guide was born—a digital-first nonprofit built by immigrants, for immigrants. Today, it stands as a beacon of hope, offering culturally responsive support and empowering individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity, resilience, and pride.
