Dance & Movement Therapy

October 6 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Dance and Movement Therapy offers a powerful way to build resilience and promote healing through the expressive potential of movement. By engaging in culturally rooted dance practices, participants can explore self-expression, celebrate their heritage, and form a deep connection with themselves and their community. This therapeutic approach helps individuals develop confidence, embrace cultural pride, and navigate personal challenges in a supportive and inclusive environment. Movement serves as a bridge to mental well-being, cultural integration, and strengthened communal ties, fostering holistic growth and empowerment.

The African Folk Dance & Movement Therapy program highlights traditional dances that blend rhythmic storytelling with call-and-response techniques to create a rich, immersive experience. These communal dances alleviate stress and anxiety while fostering a sense of belonging and interpersonal connection. By encouraging participants to share their own cultural dance forms, the program nurtures cross-cultural understanding and unity. Through guided workshops that combine movement, storytelling, and reflective discussion, individuals are empowered to connect their cultural histories to their present identities in a safe and nurturing space.
