The HIV Resources Access Project (H-RAP) is dedicated to improving access to HIV prevention, testing, and care for immigrant, non-immigrant, and undocumented communities in Washington State. H-RAP is specifically designed to address the unique challenges faced by migrant and seasonal workers, who are particularly vulnerable to HIV due to economic hardship, limited healthcare access, and cultural barriers. Despite significant progress in U.S. immigration law—making HIV no longer an automatic barrier to residency—immigrants living with HIV still face significant social and legal hurdles. Our project strives to support these communities by removing obstacles to essential healthcare.
H-RAP provides resources and education tailored to migrant communities, many of whom face isolation, cultural marginalization, and heightened vulnerability to substance use and high-risk behaviors. Our project raises awareness and builds capacity within non-HIV-focused organizations, encouraging them to become informed advocates through webinars, newsletters, social media outreach, and other channels. By collaborating with these organizations, we aim to increase knowledge and improve access to vital information and services within these communities.
Access to affordable HIV testing remains a significant challenge, as most immigrants in these communities lack health insurance, making even rapid tests—often priced at $68 per kit—financially burdensome. H-RAP is committed to advocating for more affordable testing options, connecting individuals with free testing resources whenever possible, and fostering a healthcare environment where immigrants and migrant workers can access the care and support they deserve.
Our goal is clear: to build a more inclusive healthcare landscape where all individuals, regardless of immigration status, can access HIV prevention, testing, and treatment services. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of Washington State’s immigrant communities.
